I'm not sure honestly — I think the case is a bit too perfect for it to have been done by an outsider or stranger. I would say it's probably likely that it was originally accidental (or done by the brother) and it was then covered up to avoid blame.

Did they ever do a handwriting analysis on the ransom note?

i saw an analysis on tumblr a while back but I can't seem to find it again, but i know they did an analysis on Patsy's compared to the ransom note and many people believe that Patsy wrote the ransom note (which would've made her the killer). honestly I don't have too strong of an opinion on the case just because there's a lot of grey areas imo

i feel like Burke did it. but i also feel the mother was more involved in the over-up than in the father was. Patsy was all too suspicious and didn't seem to have a ton of emotion in her voice when she spoke.

I'm not at all sure, but I think it was someone in the family. The ransom note in particular seemed very elaborate and detailed to me, as though someone was trying to draw as much attention away from what was going on in the household itself. Patsy or Burke are my main suspects in this. I still want to read more about it, though, before I form a definite conclusion -- the only book I've read about it so far is Steve Thomas's JonBenét: Inside the Ramsey Murder Investigation, which was pretty good and really gave an inside look at the case.

The ransom note was oddly lengthy. There were so many details that wouldn't have been written if it were real. I need to look more into her case, but I've seen quite a bit of talk about that note left behind. There's also the fact that JonBenét was killed in her own home. Why would someone who wanted to kidnap her for money kill her? Especially leave her in her own home. Patsy and John's book as pretty....odd to me too. At least any part that Patsy wrote.

There have been a few cases before where a ransom note was placed in order to get money even though the victim was dead or to frame the case as something else, so that point isn't a huge concern to me. I am confused about the fact that they never really checked the basement when their child went missing, or why someone with the intent to mislead the police/con a family would leave the body there. If you had enough time to write a note, wouldn't you have time to take the body with you at least?

I mean, it has been established that the note was written inside the house seeing as the pen came from the home. If it was planned the body would have been removed. Most likely happened in the heat of the moment/chance.

I've heard conflicting accounts on if she was abused or not, however.

Autopsy reports state there was some trauma to her genitalia that match that of sexual abuse. That's one of the saddest parts for me.

Going against the grain here but not Burke. What motive would a 9 year old have? How could he 'accidentally' so brutally kill her? I get his dr Phil interview was weird but honestly my own anxiety would've made me present the same way. So yeah. Not Burke. I wouldn't be surprised if it was patsy.

I really think the brother did it and the parents used a coverup. but as nowt said, what motives could a 9 year old even have?

there is a probability that he could have accidentally killed her, because I've seen many cases where "freak accidents" occur. Plus, being so young, its easy to be manipulated by your parents into believing that it wasn't your fault or that someone else had done it.

a 9 year old doesn't necessarily have to have a motive in order to kill someone. a good portion of them don't have the capacity to appreciate the consequences of their actions or to understand exactly how bad something they did is.

it does seem brutal according to autopsy report, and i had always wondered who might have been sexually assaulting her/who might have beat her so badly. there's been a few cases of kids sexually exploring their siblings, but this usually comes out of a bad environment and from what i can tell the household wasn't horrible.

can't tell from the report if the many of the injuries she sustained came before or after she died however, which would be nice to know.

anybody know what they determined the object that hit her in the head to be?

I feel like the father killed her and the mother wrote the ransom note. I have a weird ass theory that they did it because it would bring their family WAY MORE publicity than JonBenét's pageants ever will. Just think about it. A young, beautiful, talented, little 6 year old who would've grown up to be even better. The death of Jonbenét will keep her family in the limelight for years, even years after they die. Her pageants won't. I feel like they loved publicity more than their daughter. I really don't think the brother did it. I feel like he possibly witnessed it and it definitely fucked him up.
